Pokémon SV1a Triplet Beat Japanese Booster Box | Paldea Starter ex Cards
riplet Beat has a very specific identity within the Scarlet & Violet generation: it puts the three Paldean starter evolution lines front and center.
The set features Meowscarada ex, Skeledirge ex and Quaquaval ex, representing Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly’s final evolutions. It also expanded the use of Illustration Rare cards that had recently been introduced with the Scarlet & Violet era.
The result is a set that feels strongly connected to the beginning of the Paldea era rather than simply being another collection of random Pokémon.
The Three Starter Pokémon
A major attraction of SV1a is the opportunity to collect the final evolutions of all three Paldean starters in one expansion.
Meowscarada ex represents the Grass starter Sprigatito, while Skeledirge ex and Quaquaval ex complete the Fire and Water sides of the trio.
Triplet Beat goes further by giving all three of these Pokémon premium gold Ultra Rare versions, making the starter trio one of the defining themes of the set.
The Magikarp Everyone Remembers
Although the starter Pokémon provide the set’s central theme, one of the cards that has attracted considerable collector attention is the Magikarp Art Rare.
The Japanese Magikarp is numbered 080/073 in the set’s extended numbering and features artwork by Shinji Kanda.
Rather than showing Magikarp as a simple Pokémon card illustration, the Art Rare uses a much more elaborate illustrated scene, which is exactly the type of artwork that helped make modern Japanese Scarlet & Violet sets popular with collectors.
