Mega Darkrai ex Headlines M5

Mega Darkrai ex is the centerpiece of Abyss Eye and gives the expansion its dark, atmospheric identity.

The official Pokémon Card Game database lists Mega Darkrai ex at 280 HP. Its signature Abyss Eye attack can knock out the opponent’s Active Pokémon if that Pokémon is affected by a Special Condition, regardless of its remaining HP.

That unusual attack creates a natural connection between Mega Darkrai ex and cards that inflict Special Conditions, making the set particularly interesting for players as well as collectors.

A New Wave of Mega Evolution Pokémon

Abyss Eye expands the modern Mega Evolution lineup with several Pokémon receiving new Mega Evolution ex cards.

The main set includes:

• Mega Darkrai ex

• Mega Zeraora ex

• Mega Chandelure ex

• Mega Excadrill ex

• Mega Zeraora ex

• Lurantis ex

• Wailord ex

• Rampardos ex

• Morpeko ex

The official expansion page specifically highlights Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex and Mega Chandelure ex as important Pokémon from the set.

Mega Zeraora ex Brings Speed and Power

Mega Zeraora ex gives M5 a strong Lightning-type presence.

The official Abyss Eye information presents Mega Zeraora ex as a fast, aggressive Mega Evolution designed around attacking and retreating, with Miraidon and Bolt Lightning Energy providing additional support.

This makes the M5 card pool more diverse than a set built entirely around Dark-type Pokémon.

Mega Chandelure ex

Another major Mega Evolution in M5 is Mega Chandelure ex.

The official Pokémon Card Game website features Mega Chandelure ex alongside Marshadow and describes a strategy based around controlling the opponent’s options while dealing heavy damage.

Its presence also gives collectors another highly recognizable Mega Evolution from Pokémon Legends: Z-A to chase.

Mega Excadrill ex

Mega Excadrill ex adds another popular Mega Evolution to the expansion.

Excadrill’s inclusion gives M5 a strong Steel/Ground identity and expands the set beyond the Darkrai-centered cards.

Together with Mega Zeraora ex and Mega Chandelure ex, it gives Abyss Eye several different Mega Evolution themes for collectors to explore.

The “Baked Away” Strategy

One of the more unusual themes in M5 revolves around Pokémon with the Baked Away ability.

The official Pokémon Card Game website explains that Pokémon with this Ability can avoid the effects of an opponent’s attacks and Abilities. Cards including Sinistcha, Poltchageist, Banette and Shuppet are connected to this strategy.

This gives Abyss Eye a distinctive gameplay identity beyond its headline Mega Pokémon.

Dark-type Support Cards

M5 also includes several cards designed to support Dark-type Pokémon.

Dark Bell can make both Active Pokémon Confused, except for Darkness-type Pokémon. That makes it especially relevant alongside Mega Darkrai ex because Special Conditions are central to its Abyss Eye attack.

The set also introduces Shadow Darkness Energy, which provides Darkness Energy and protects an attached Benched Darkness-type Pokémon from attack damage.

81-Card Main Set

Abyss Eye contains 81 cards in its numbered main set.

The complete Japanese checklist extends beyond the main set into premium rarities, with 118 numbered cards in total according to current card-list references.

The premium section includes:

• 12 Art Rare cards

• 18 Secret Rare cards

• 6 Special Art Rare cards

• 1 Mega Ultra Rare

The final numbered card is the gold Mega Darkrai ex MUR.

Mega Darkrai ex SAR and MUR

Mega Darkrai ex appears among the set’s highest rarities, giving collectors multiple versions of the headline Pokémon to pursue.

The Mega Darkrai ex SAR provides an illustrated premium version, while the MUR is the gold version that closes the M5 numbered checklist.

This makes Mega Darkrai ex the natural centerpiece for collectors opening or completing an Abyss Eye collection.

30 Japanese Booster Packs

A sealed M5 Abyss Eye booster box contains:

• 30 Japanese booster packs

• 5 cards per pack

• 150 cards per box

The official Pokémon Card Game confirms the 5-card random pack configuration and the ¥200 Japanese MSRP.

Because the cards are randomly inserted, a sealed box does not guarantee Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, a SAR, MUR or any other individual card.

A Major 2026 Mega Evolution Release

Abyss Eye follows the earlier Japanese Mega Evolution releases and continues the expansion of the modern MEGA series.

It is particularly notable because it introduces Mega Evolutions connected with the Mega Dimension DLC of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, including Mega Darkrai, Mega Zeraora, Mega Chandelure and Mega Excadrill.

For collectors following the Japanese Mega Evolution series chronologically, M5 Abyss Eye is an important 2026 release.
