The Pokémon SV2P Snow Hazard Japanese Booster Box takes collectors into one of the most memorable parts of the early Scarlet & Violet era: the mysterious Legendary Pokémon of Paldea.

Released in Japan on April 14, 2023, Snow Hazard was released alongside Clay Burst (SV2D) and expanded the Pokémon TCG’s growing Paldea card pool. The Japanese expansion contains 71 cards in its main set and 99 cards when the higher-rarity cards are included.

At the center of Snow Hazard are the Treasures of Ruin, particularly Chien-Pao ex and Wo-Chien ex. The set also gives collectors several attractive Illustration Rare and Special Art Rare cards, including one of its biggest Trainer-card highlights, Grusha.

If you collect Japanese Pokémon cards, Snow Hazard is an especially interesting sealed product because it captures an early stage of the Scarlet & Violet generation while introducing several Pokémon that became important throughout the Paldea storyline.

❄️ The Pokémon at the Heart of Snow Hazard

Snow Hazard’s most recognizable card is Chien-Pao ex.

Chien-Pao is one of Paldea’s four Treasures of Ruin, and the Pokémon receives several different treatments within SV2P. Its Special Art Rare 093/071 is one of the principal chase cards from the expansion and remains one of the cards collectors associate most strongly with Snow Hazard.

The set also features Wo-Chien ex, another member of the Treasures of Ruin group. Together, these Legendary Pokémon give the expansion a distinctive Paldean identity rather than making it feel like a generic collection of Pokémon ex cards.

🎴 A Strong Set for Illustration Collectors

One of the most appealing aspects of SV2P is the range of artwork spread throughout the set.

The higher-rarity portion includes Art Rare, Special Art Rare and Ultra Rare cards, allowing collectors to find illustrated versions of Pokémon as well as premium Trainer and Energy cards.

Some notable cards to look for include:

  • Chien-Pao ex — 093/071

  • Grusha — 095/071

  • Squawkabilly ex — 094/071

  • Wo-Chien ex

  • Baxcalibur

  • Marill

  • Frigibax

  • Arctibax

  • Cetitan

  • Dudunsparce

Current card listings also identify Chien-Pao ex 093/071 and Grusha 095/071 among the leading cards in the set.

🧊 Grusha SAR

Snow Hazard isn’t just a Pokémon chase set.

One of its most desirable Trainer cards is Grusha, the Gym Leader associated with the Glaseado Mountain Gym in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

The Grusha Special Art Rare is numbered 095/071, placing it in the secret-rarity portion of the Japanese set. It has become one of the signature Trainer cards collectors look for when opening SV2P.

That gives the box appeal to both Pokémon collectors and people who specifically collect full-art Trainer cards.

🐉 More Than Chien-Pao

Although Chien-Pao is the obvious headline Pokémon, Snow Hazard has a broader selection.

The set includes Pokémon such as Slowking ex, Annihilape ex, Copperajah ex and Squawkabilly ex, while the regular and Illustration Rare portions introduce additional Pokémon from across Paldea.

The Baxcalibur evolution line is another notable part of the expansion, making Snow Hazard interesting from a gameplay perspective as well as from a collecting standpoint.

This mixture of Legendary Pokémon, new Paldean species and familiar Pokémon gives the set considerably more variety than its icy theme might initially suggest.

📦 What You Actually Receive

A Japanese SV2P Snow Hazard Booster Box contains:

30 booster packs × 5 cards per pack = 150 cards per box.

This is the original Japanese version, so the cards, booster packs and packaging are in Japanese.

The product is sold as a factory-sealed Japanese display box. Individual cards are randomly inserted by the manufacturer, meaning a specific card such as Chien-Pao ex SAR or Grusha SAR is not guaranteed in a particular box.

🇯🇵 Original Japanese Release

Snow Hazard was released in Japan on April 14, 2023 as part of the Scarlet & Violet generation.

The Japanese product is particularly useful for collectors who want the original Japanese printing rather than the later international release. Snow Hazard and Clay Burst contributed cards to the English-language Paldea Evolved expansion.

For a Japanese sealed collection, SV2P also makes sense chronologically after Scarlet ex, Violet ex and Triplet Beat.
